Ask any woman who has had kids what they think is the most critical thing to have ready for your new baby and you are going to get a whole boatload of different answers. For some people then allowing your baby to sleep is critical because it is when they sleep that their body gets to grow, and babies do a lot of sleeping and growing, so for those people they would say a crib or bassinet is the first thing you need to buy.

Other people worry about safety, so they would say you need to baby proof your house as much as you can before the baby arrives. That involves buying things like blanks for your wall sockets and baby-proof locks for any cupboards they can get to, but you also need to go around and make sure any sharp corners are covered and nothing is reachable by your new baby.

Another group of people might say that preparing for when your baby is ill is most important because your baby will get ill a lot, and it is a very scary time even if you have the right things, but it will be even worse if you aren’t prepared. So you need to have things like a book which you can consult to check out what their symptoms are and it can then advise you on the best course of action, a baby ear thermometer is important to check for a raised temperature, and of course having your doctors number handy will save lots of stress too.

In reality though, all of these things are as important as each other, you need to have all of this ready for the birth so you are not caught out.
